When I was growing up in the Arkansas Delta, climbing grain bins and silos felt like an adventure. We'd scramble to the top and jump into piles of rice below—something that seems terribly risky in hindsight, but felt perfectly natural at the time. This painting returns to that feeling of being young, fearless, and certain the world was ours to explore. Two children sit above the fields as the sun sinks toward the horizon. The scene is quiet, but it holds the thrill of those moments when possibility seemed endless. On Top of the World is a portrait of childhood freedom, of dreams not yet measured against reality, and of the memories that become more precious with time.
